Meeting Minutes

September 7, 2016

The North Adams Public Arts Commission held a public meeting on September 7, 2016 at City Hall’s law library, 10 Main Street, North Adams.

Members Present:

CALL TO ORDER
Vice Chairperson Dixon called the meeting to order at 4:07p.m.

READING OF THE MINUTES
After a review of the minutes, Dixon moved to accept the Public Arts Commission minutes from its July 21, 2016 public meeting. Sellers seconded.  All voted in favor.  None opposed.

INTRODUCTION OF PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSIONINTERN
Members welcomed the new Public Arts Commission intern from MCLA, Katrina Staaf.  Dixon and Sellers, the committee members who will be supervising the internship, reviewed intern responsibilities and made arrangements with Staaf to establish a more detailed schedule.

REVIEW OF PROPOSED ORDINANCE AMENDMENTS
Dixon reviewed rationale and process of revising the ordinance language, and then led the committee through the proposed changes.  Dixon explained that her drafted language had been inspired by the language used in other public arts commissions throughout the country.  The committee discussed a few possible changes, and agreed to spend more time with the document and share proposed changes with Dixon by Sunday, September 18.

Dixon motioned to table the group discussion; Sellers seconded.  All voted in favor, none opposed.

LOGO DISCUSSION
Dixon shared a draft of a possible logo for the public arts commission.  Members gave feedback for Dixon to bring back to the designer for another draft.

PUBLIC ATTENDEES CONCERNS
City Councilor Buddington shared information regarding another designer interested in working with the public arts commission on future projects.

MEMBER CONCERNS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Blackmer noted a few changes regarding contact links and information needed on the public arts commission city webpage.

Future agenda items may include further discussion of ordinance amendments, the logo, and a discussion of qualities in art appreciated by the commission members.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Public Arts Commission will occur on September 22 at 4:00p.m. at the Law Library meeting room in City Hall.

ADJOURNMENT
With no other business to discuss, Quiñones moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:28p.m.  Sellers seconded.  All voted in favor.  None opposed.
