Meeting Minutes

June 30, 2016

The North Adams Public Arts Commission held a public meeting on June 30, 2016 at City Hall’s law library, 10 Main Street, North Adams.

Members Present:
Erica Manville, Chairperson
Julia Dixon, Vice Chairperson
Cynthia Quiñones, Secretary
William C. Blackmer, Jr.

Absent:
Gail Kolis Sellers
Nancy Ziter
Eric Kerns

Also Present: none

CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Manville called the meeting to order at 4:06p.m.

READING OF THE MINUTES
After a review of the minutes, Dixon moved to accept the Public Arts Commission minutes from its June 2, 2016 public meeting. Blackmer seconded.  All voted in favor.  None opposed.

REVIEW OF INVENTORY (DIXON)
The commission agreed to postpone this review and focus its efforts on pursuing an amendment of the ordinance that would allow the commission to take a more active role in the community.  Quiñones and Dixon offered to seek out meetings with city councilors who played a prominent role in the creation of the arts commission in order to discuss next steps.

ART ABOUT TOWN REVIEW OF PROJECTS (SELLERS)
In Sellers’ absence, members agreed to postpone this item until the following meeting.

REVIEW OF INTERNSHIP WORK
Members reviewed the list of intern responsibilities created in March.

DISCUSSION OF SHAPING THE FUTURE OF THE PUBLIC ARTS COMMISSION
Manville suggested that the commission look into strategies for publicizing the commission’s role and presence in North Adams.  This led to a discussion of branding and the creation of a logo for the commission. Dixon offered to reach out to the local designer who created the newly placed North Adams signs at the main roadways entering the city.

PUBLIC ATTENDEES CONCERNS
None presented.

MEMBER CONCERNS/FUTURE AGENDA ITEMS
Future agenda items will include the review of a draft of an artist contract (to be created by Dixon), an update on the commission logo, and an update on efforts to amend the ordinance.

NEXT MEETING
The next meeting of the Public Arts Commission will occur on July 21, 2016, at 4:00p.m. at the Law Library meeting room in City Hall.

ADJOURNMENT
With no other business to discuss, Dixon moved to adjourn the meeting at 5:02p.m.  Quiñones seconded.  All voted in favor.  None opposed.
