CALL TO ORDER
Chairperson Manville called the meeting to order at 6:33pm.
Ziter moved to accept Public Arts Commission minutes from its December 21, 2015 public meeting. Manville seconded. All voted in favor. None opposed.
Ziter presented members with draft goals, purpose, and vision statements for the Commission. After editing by all members, the two revised statements were:
- The North Adams Public Arts Commission provides guidance and support to further the development (or advocacy) and creation of public art works in the City of North Adams.
- The North Adams Public Arts Commission provides guidance and support to artists seeking to create public art in the City of North Adams.
Members were asked to review these statements and come prepared to discuss them further at the next meeting.
After discussion, it was agreed that the three immediate tasks required of the Commission are to develop an application and review process of proposed new works on City property, inventory and maintain current works, and connect the work of the Commission with the community including finalizing the purpose statement, establishing a web page for the Commission on the City’s website, and reaching out to key community stakeholders. Follow up tasks were identified and distributed.
GUEST REQUESTS TO PRESENT TO COMMISSION
Due to the fact that several community members, including Michelle Daly, had requested to make presentations before the Commission, it was agreed that these individuals be contacted separately about their needs and the Chairwoman will add their presentations to future agendas pending the completion of the three tasks above.
The committee agreed to schedule their next meeting on February 4, 2016 at 4:00pm at City Hall. Agenda items include a review of the current public art inventory, a review of other City applications, and a discussion of the establishment of a process for proposed new works.
With no other business to discuss, Ziter moved to adjourn the meeting at 8:06pm. Dixon seconded. All voted in favor. None opposed.
